Everything For Your Drive From One Team
Dibben & Sons builds, extends and resurfaces driveways for homes and businesses across Bournemouth. Our people are fully qualified, trained and insured, our prices are competitive, and we finish on time.
The four services we are asked for most are set out below. Our team is multi-skilled, so if the job also calls for a fence, a deck or a garden wall, we can build that too.
Surfaces we lay for drives, paths and patios:
- Block paving
- Tarmac
- Asphalt
- Resin
- Gravel
- Natural stone
- Slabs
- Imprinted concrete
Block Paving
Block Paving In Bournemouth
Block paving is now one of the most popular choices for drives and garden paths, largely because no two have to look alike. You choose the block, the colour and the laying pattern, and we work the design through with you before the first block goes down.
We supply blocks in many sizes and shades, competitively priced, for houses and commercial premises alike. If you already have a look in mind, perhaps herringbone with a darker border, show us and we will build it.
A properly laid block drive smartens the front of the whole house and can add to its value. It also ages well: should a block ever get stained or damaged, it can be lifted out and replaced without disturbing the rest.

Tarmac Driveways
Tarmac Driveways In Bournemouth
We made our name laying hard-wearing tarmac on drives and paths. Asphalt macadam is what the majority of driveways are surfaced with, and it tends to be the most economical option as well.
There are three ways we can help. We can construct a new tarmac driveway from the ground up, make your current one longer or wider, or put a new top on it. Provided the old drive is prepared correctly, a layer of stone mastic asphalt can be applied over the top, and a row of brick along the edge frames the finished surface neatly.
Whatever the size of the job, from a short path beside the house to a wide commercial entrance, the same qualified and insured team carries it out. Once the surface is down, we will explain how to look after it.
Benefits of a tarmac driveway
- Smooth underfoot and under tyres
- Grips well in the wet
- Durable and safe
- Little upkeep
- Economical
Patios & Paths
Patios & Garden Paths In Bournemouth
We plan and lay patios for gardens large and small, in whichever stone, shade and texture suits the house. Steps, garden walls, paths and artificial turf can all be built as part of the same job, so you only need one team on site.
Most people now pick Indian sandstone or natural limestone. Both last well and bring plenty of colour, and sandstone these days costs much the same as concrete paving. Purbeck stone, quarried here in Dorset, is another long-lasting choice that works for paths, walls and rockeries as well as patios.

Dropped Kerbs
Dropped Kerbs In Bournemouth
Lowering the kerb means you can drive across the pavement and onto your own land. In the parts of Bournemouth where a space on the street is hard to come by, that can change daily life. We put in new dropped kerbs and alter existing ones, for householders and for businesses.
The kerb and the pavement are part of the public highway, so BCP Council has to agree to the crossing before anyone starts work. Our installations follow local regulations and safety standards, and we work efficiently so the pavement is disrupted for as short a time as possible.
A lowered kerb also gives wheelchair users, parents with prams and cyclists a level way across. If you need the driveway as well, we can plan kerb and drive together in block paving or tarmac.
Benefits of a dropped kerb
- Parking off the road
- Level access from the street
- Built to local regulations
- Appeals to future buyers
Fencing, Decking & Brickwork Too
The people who lay your drive can also see to the jobs around it. Besides the three trades below, we take on roofing, guttering, drainage and general building repairs.
-
Fencing
Sturdy fencing that marks out your boundary and tidies up the garden, put up with good materials so it stays standing.
-
Decking
Timber decks of any size, whether that is a step outside the back door or a full seating area, completed in sensible time.
-
Bricklaying
Garden walls, edgings and other brickwork from bricklayers who have worked for customers all over Dorset.
FAQs
Block Paving, Tarmac & Dropped Kerbs: Your Questions
If yours isn't answered here, give us a ring. We are glad to talk a job through before you commit to anything.
Call 07710 986 977 Who has to approve a dropped kerb in Bournemouth?
BCP Council. It is the highway authority for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, so a new crossing over the pavement needs its agreement before work starts.
Can new tarmac go over my old driveway?
Often it can. If the existing drive has been prepared correctly, stone mastic asphalt can be used to overlay it. If the surface underneath has failed, it needs putting right first.
Is block paving hard to look after?
No. It needs very little maintenance, and if a block is ever damaged it can be taken out and replaced on its own.
What stone do you use for patios?
Mostly Indian sandstone and natural limestone, which are durable and colourful. We also lay Purbeck stone and concrete paving, and build in softwood and hardwood decking.
Do you take on commercial work?
Yes. We work for businesses as well as homeowners, on anything from a small domestic job to a large commercial contract.
